With sights focused on the future growth of Combined Driving in the America, Mary Phelps, Wayne Humphreys will be presenting the first of a proposed educational series in Driving Sport USA at their farm in Micanopy, Florida.

Tuesday and Wednesday – January 30-31

The focus will be on The Driven Dressage Test from the Judges’ Perspective with Andrew Counsell . Tuesday begins at 9:00 with a lecture/video followed by multiple drives at all levels and combinations. The cost includes a catered breakfast (for the lecture/video session with Andrew) and lunch served by Sister’s Place.

This is a unique opportunity to experience and learn from one of the most respected and knowledgeable officials in FEI Driving Sport. This clinic is open to judges, aspiring judges, FEI, USEF, ADS, and USDF members, as well as drivers at all levels, and other Driving sport enthusiasts.

Counsell has contributed to the international education of judges, officials and drivers with similar programs he has presented in multiple countries. He will be in Florida as the head of the ground jury for the USEF Grand Oaks Combined Driving Event January 26-28.

The Cost – $150 for attending clinic Tuesday including a catered breakfast for the morning lecture, and lunch served by Sister’s Place. ( Tuesday only)
All auditors are welcome to return Wednesday for participating Drivers.

Please note – our schedule may be adjusted according to updates and additions, but this is basically the format. We are going to do this right with a lovely catered lunch on Tuesday, proper sound system, and tented seating.

We will create a show like atmosphere with a decorated 40 x 80 dressage arena, banners and feather flags featuring selected drivers and their equines for the tests.

Tuesday’s Schedule;

• 9:00 – Lecture, Q and A, Videos with Andrew
  Coffee and breakfast snacks will be served.
• 11:00 – Drive a test begins – Singles, Pairs and Multiples
  Training
  Preliminary
  Young Horse Test

Selected drivers at all levels, combinations, and abilities, will bravely do their selected test for commentary and discussion.

• 1:30 – 2:00 Lunch will be served for paid participants
• 2:00 – 5:00
  Intermediate
  Advanced

Wednesday, January 31

No planned meals but snacks , drinks and potluck appreciated.

The day will continue with more drive a tests, where auditors are welcome to come, watch and listen.
All paid participants are welcome to audit on Wednesday

• $100 per – Drive a Test – This open to all drivers with a preference given to those who drove on Wednesday. In a Drive a Test Clinic, it has been shown to be beneficial, to process what you have learned on the first day, and see and feel the difference on the second.

About Andrew Counsell

Andrew Counsell

A professional educator, as principal of the Duchy College in Cornwall, Counsell became a national driving trials official and an FEI international driving judge in 2006.

He has now officiated at over 160 international events, including 19 World Championships and World Equestrian Games.

During his time in the college he chaired an RDA group and became a national RDA Driving instructor and inspector. Andrew is now chair of British Carriage Driving.

Andrew’s passion for driving and education will bring a new dimension to the USA Driving Community. It is our goal in creating this event we will develop a plan for continued  educational opportunities on multiple levels of our sport.

We strongly urge those coming from out of town to support our event by supporting our local, closest and magical hotel. The beautiful Herlong Mansion an 1845 Bed and Breakfast that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is managed with love by owner Kim Shore. “We love equestrians” was Kim’s response when I reached out to her with the idea.

The Herlong Mansion is located in beautiful historic Micanopy, Florida. Micanopy is the location several movies including Doc Hollywood, Cross Creek, and the Yearling.
