Breakfast served – 8:30
9:00-10:15
Discussion with video and slides
First Drive at 10:45
The objective of the day is to try to look at judging through the judge’s eyes. The judges are learning from each other as well as the drivers. The more we can work together for a collective understanding the more consistent the judging can become.
Each of the turnouts who have come forward will drive, Each session will be about 40 mins. The individual turnout will drive for about 40 mins including some discussion time.
On the first day there will be an introduction the turnout. You will be asked to drive the test you are familiar with at the level they currently are. The first day the emphasis will be on the way of going. There will not be a test sheet created but there will be comments made and discussed around the overall way of going of the turnout. We will use the “Directive ideas” and “Young Horse” criteria looking specifically at:
Way of going:
- Bending and straightness
- Suppleness and lightness
- Rhythm and Balance
- “on the bit” and outline
- Contact and communication.
- Tracking up and over tracking
- Activity and impulsion.
Use of the arena:
- Using the corners
- Accuracy
- Transitions
Other comments – if relevant towards the collective marks.
- Harness- how it might affect your marks!
- Rein Handling – how it is affecting the test.
Once the test has been driven and comments discussed it will be possible to look at some of the movements using the comments. Remember this is not a specific training session but a view of what we a reseing and how that is related to the marks you may be given.
The test will then be driven again, and further brief discussion made using the same criteria.
Drivers can watch others, but we ask for mutual respect around any comments made as we will be commenting on what we see.
