Switzerland’s Fuchs takes Individual Jumping Title in Thriller

In a thrilling final afternoon at the Longines FEI European Championships in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, 27-year-old Swiss rider Martin Fuchs claimed the individual Jumping title.

Moving up from bronze to silver medal spot after today’s first round, he produced his fifth clear jumping performance of the week with his brilliant grey gelding Clooney, adding just a single time fault. And when the leader, Great Britain’s Ben Maher and Explosion W, hit the second-last fence on the final course the Swiss rider who has had to settle for individual silver at both last year’s FEI World Equestrian Games™ in Tryon, USA and at the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Final in Gothenburg, Sweden earlier this year grabbed gold at last.

Jos Verlooy, a member of Friday’s gold medal winning team from Belgium was lying third going into the final day, and added just a single time penalty to take bronze with Igor.
