Scott and Kathi Dancer have a long history of service in Woodside, California, especially to Woodside’s equestrian community. In recognition of their combined contributions to the town, they have been honored as the Grand Marshals of the historic and traditional May Day Parade 2024.

Making New Cherished Memories

Upon learning they were named the Grand Marshals of the May Day Parade, the Dancers commented, “It is a surprise and great honor. The small-town charm and tradition of the May Day Parade is truly unique. Our children participated in the parade and the Maypole dance when they were young. It holds cherished memories for our entire family. We are grateful for the gesture of being named Grand Marshals and excited to participate in such a wonderful tradition.”

Woodside Junior Riders A Model Program For Equestrian Sport

Kathi and Scott Dancer raised two children who attended Woodside Elementary, preschool through 8th grade. On the children’s birthday each year, Kathi was seen in the pickup line with a horse-drawn carriage. Kathi is President and Program Manager of Woodside Junior Riders, a non-profit summer English riding program where children ages 6 to 16 learn horsemanship, horse safety, and care. It is the oldest and longest-running riding program for children on the West Coast since 1947. Kathi has been serving the community in this capacity for over 25 years. Scott sits on the Board of directors for Junior Riders and helps on the grounds as needed.

A Community That Celebrates Horses

Scott Dancer serves on the Board of directors of the Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County, located in Woodside on Kings Mountain Road. He had the honor of being Captain for two consecutive years. The members of the Mounted Patrol host a Junior Rodeo each year on July 4th, a Woodside tradition for over 75 years.

A Team for the Team

So often seen working together, Kathi and Scott support local riding groups, including the San Mateo County Horseman’s Association, Woodside Trails Club, and the Shack Riders. When not busy serving the community, the Dancers can be found actively competing internationally in the combined driving discipline, similar to 3-day eventing, but with a pair of horses in front of a carriage. They have both earned the unique distinction of being named to the United States Equestrian Team multiple times.
