World Equestrian Center Jockey Club Update

At the March 7th meeting of the Board of County Commissioners, the County Attorney, Guy Minter, reported to the Commissioners that a settlement had been reached in the Petition for Writ of Certiorari filed by Petitioners Guthrie/Love; and Intervenor Save Our Rural Areas, against Respondent Marion County; and Intervenor Golden Ocala Equestrian Land.

Attorney Minter advised that the settlement agreement provided for protection of what might be a culturally sensitive area, added additional buffers, resolved issues with the signage, and increased the minimum lot size next to the Guthrie property from 3-acres to 6-acres.

Minter further advised that the settlement agreement did not require changes to the Commission’s previous approval of the Comprehensive Plan Amendment and the Zoning change for the World Equestrian Center Jockey Club project.

Support Our Watchdog Efforts

The Marion County Farmland Preservation Area is under constant threat of incompatible development. Our watchdogs monitor all applications for land use, zoning, divisions and special use permits. We attend hundreds of hours of planning and zoning workshops, hearings and commission meetings.

The Horse Farms Forever Amendment assures the County will preserve and protect the rural and equestrian character within the Farmland Preservation Area. When a development proposal does not support and enhance that rural and equestrian character, we speak up … barking loudly if necessary!

Thank you for your support!
