Edward Gal (NED) became a three-time world champion Friday night at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky, USA, following a 91.8 test on the famed Moorlands Totilas. In the same pattern as the earlier Grand Prix Special, Great Britain’s Laura Bechtolsheimer on Mistral Hojris captured the silver and Steffen Peters secured bronze for the United States. Peters already made history this week as the only US rider to medal individually in dressage.

Peters dedicated his evening to friend and fellow-Olympic dressage rider Courtney King-Dye, whose fall off her horse earlier this year without a helmet left her in months of rehabilitation and no longer with the use of her right side. When accepting his medal, Peters symbolically wore a helmet in honor of King Dye. Steffen Peters medaled for the United States, taking bronze. It is believed that this marks the first US individual dressage medal in a world championship. Also Friday, the Eventing World Championships continued with its dressage test. Michael Jung (GER) on La Biosthetique-Sam is holding the lead going into Saturday’s cross country phase with Stefano Brecciaroli (ITA) and Simone Deitermann (GER) currently in the second and third individual positions respectively.   Both events contributed to a record Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games attendance day with 46,496 people on the Park and 9 days of competition remaining. Final Results- Grand Prix Freestyle DressageIndividual – 1, Edward Gal (Moorlands Totilas) NED 91.8; 2, Laura Bechtolsheimer (Mistral Hojris) GBR, 85.350; 3, Steffen Peters (Ravel) USA 84.900.
