Dressage is not only a sport that is likely to take a lifetime to master, but one that most people can actually participate in throughout most of their life. While there are only a few marathon runners who keep racing in their 80s and 90s, there are quite a few riders who are able to climb aboard a horse and complete at least a Training Level test.

Special awards for senior equestrians in dressage include the Vintage Cup, Masters Challenge and the Centurion Award. The Vintage Cup, for riders over age 50, and the Masters Challenge, for riders over age 60, are presented by the United States Dressage Federation (USDF). The Centurion Award, presented by The Dressage Foundation, is given to a horse and rider pair whose combined ages total more than 100 years old, who are able to ride down the center line and perform a dressage test.
