Torano and Engle Can’t Catch Oh Star

Jimmy Torano, Ft. Lauderdale, FL was the only other rider to go clean. He and Lancier 4 timed out at 49.458 seconds, ahead of Engle’s four fault round in a time of 49.577 seconds. “I really felt like I was on the pace,” explained Torano, “but I got too conservative where McLain turned too tight.”

Torano explained that Lancier is “a little bit of a tough horse. The more relaxed he is the better off you are. He’s very brave. It doesn’t matter what it is he’ll always jump. If he’s fresh he can be unrideable and unmanageable and I can’t let him get used to his bridle.”

So, Sunday, under sunny skies, on ground that was still a bit mucky from the torrential downpours the day before, Minikus had a belated present for his 39th birthday (June 11) as he rode Oh Star to their first Festival of Champions Grand Prix victory.
