Euro Update: Van Grunsven Will Not Take Salinero To 2008 CDIO Aachen

Right after winning the 2008 World Cup Finals, Anky van Grunsven announced that she will not be competing Salinero at the 2008 Dutch Dressage Championships in Eindhoven nor at the CDIO Aachen. Anky’s top horse will only be shown in two more competitions, the Dutch Olympic Selection Trials in De Steeg and Rotterdam, before the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong.Anky will take her second Grand Prix horse Painted Black to the Dutch Championships. She also added in her statement that showing at the CDIO Aachen is out of the question. “Salinero does not feel himself at home in that small dressage stadium. It think it’s better to skip it,” she said.At the World Cup press conference, Isabell revealed that she has many competitions on her show schedule: CDI Hagen, CDI Wiesbaden, the German Championships in Balve and the CDIO Aachen. After breaking up with Martin Schaudt, Capellmann temporarily started training with the German chef d’equipe Holger Schmezer. She now has found a new permanent trainer who lives closer to her home in Aachen. Jurgen Koschel is the former Swiss and Dutch team trainer and is now working out his own yard in Hagen, Germany. Nadine is aiming for a spot on the German Olympic Team.Douglas Dorsey RetiredBritish WEG team rider Laura Bechtolsheimer has retired her 17-year-old grand prix ride Douglas Dorsey from international competition.Laura’s father started competing the 17.2hh German-bred gelding by Donnerhall in 2000 and Laura took over the ride in 2004. After only riding him a couple of weeks, Laura won team bronze at the European Young Rider Championships. Apart from numerous wins at international level, they became national championships in 2005 and represented Britain at the World Equestrian Games in 2006.“He is fit and healthy, but is not that motivated in the ring any more. He put my name on the map at international senior level and has done me a huge service.
