Update to USEF Drugs and Medications Guidelines
Tuesday, June 11, 2019 | Debbie Schumann
Due to continued research and experience, USEF Drugs and Medication Guidelines regarding detomidine (brand name: Dormosedan) have been updated, which will help veterinarians in their role as guardians of the horse to assist their clients in responsible management of their horses when competing under USEF rules and regulations.
Please refer to the updated detection time for detomidine in the USEF Drugs and Medications Guidelines HERE. Please note the new 48-hour detection time is dose-dependent, and administering this drug in excess of a single intravenous dose (20ug/kg or 0.9 mg/100lb) can involve significant fines and suspensions. Please consult your veterinarian for guidance.
