James T. Wright passed away on May 13th, 2026, at the age of 88. Born in Ware, MA, Jim lived a life marked by dedication, compassion, hard work, and a deep love for family, and animals.
Jim attended The Williston Northampton School from 6th through 12th grade, graduating in 1956. He continued his education at Stetson University before completing his prerequisites at University of Georgia and pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian. He then enlisted in the US Air Force reserves and served until 1976, earning the rank of Major.
Shortly after veterinary school, Jim began his career working alongside Dr. Stu Harvey at the racetrack, combining his love for animals with his passion of horses. He later built Still River Veterinary Clinic, where he focused on equine medicine. Veterinary medicine was more than a profession to him — it was truly his calling.
Over the years, Jim devoted his life to caring for animals through both small and large animal practices. He owned and operated a small animal practice in Miami and later moved to Lady Lake and returned to equine medicine, his true calling, until his retirement in 2022. His compassion, knowledge, and steady presence earned the trust and respect of clients and colleagues alike throughout his long career.
Outside of work, Jim found great joy in riding and training Arabian horses. He was happiest spending time with family and friends, sharing stories.
He is survived by his sister, Deborah Houghton and son, Jay Wright (Colleen) and daughter, Jocelyn Richburg (John), six grandsons, two great-grandsons, and three great-granddaughters.
A small service to celebrate his life was held at Highpoint at Stonecrest on May 16, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your favorite animal charity.
