A private funeral service will be held in Michigan.

Though many knew Mary Anne for her extraordinary contributions to the equestrian world, she was also a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, helicopter pilot, and to some of us, the heart of our family.

Mary Anne devoted her life to the sport of dressage, not just as a competitor and judge, but as a tireless advocate for education and equine welfare. One of her most recent and meaningful passions was the Mary Anne and Walter McPhail Judges’ Education Fund at The Dressage Foundation, which elevates the sport through education and integrity.

In lieu of flowers, we invite you to honor her memory by contributing to this cause:
Donations can be made online at https://www.dressagefoundation.org/ways-to-give/donate.html or by mailing a check to The Dressage Foundation, 1314 ‘O’ Street, Suite 305, Lincoln, NE 68508. Please note “McPhail Fund” in the designation box online or in the check’s memo line.

We’d also love to celebrate Mary Anne’s legacy with your stories. Please feel free to share your favorite memories or photos in the comments—your reflections mean so much to all of us who loved her.
