Charlotte Jorst is a Danish-born American Grand Prix dressage rider. A devoted horse lover, wife and mother of two daughters, and successful businesswoman, she juggles the running of her popular sports apparel company Kastel Denmark with finding time in the saddle and competing across the country. And now, with her talented horses Kastel’s Akeem Foldager, Kastel’s Nintendo, and Kastel’s Adventure, she’s following her dream of competing for the U.S. Dressage Team at the 2016 Olympic Games.

Even though she enjoyed pony rides as a child growing up in Denmark, Jorst didn’t have any formal equestrian instruction until the age of 35 when she joined her daughters for riding lessons and discovered she had a talent for dressage. When she and husband Henrik sold Skagen Denmark, a company they had founded in their New York City apartment, to global watch giant Fossil, Inc., Jorst finally had the resources to pursue her dreams.

Jorst quickly became one of the leading adult amateurs in the U.S. In 2013, she and her Westfalen stallion Kastel’s Vitalis represented the U.S. at the FEI World Breeding Championships for Dressage Young Horses in Verden, Germany, finishing 13th. Returning stateside, the pair captured the six-year-old title at the Markel/USEF Young & Developing Dressage National Championships in Illinois, where she and her Dutch gelding Kastel’s Adventure also took the reserve spot in the Developing Prix St. Georges Championship.

Now competing in the High Performance ranks, last year Jorst and Kastel’s Nintendo traveled to Europe to represent the U.S. at the CDIO5* Rotterdam (NED) and Hagen (GER), coming home with a Team Bronze and individual third place and subsequently named as reserves for the Pan Am Games Team. The pair also recently finished as one of the top eight Grand Prix combinations in the country at the U.S. Dressage Festival of Champions. Now with her trademark smile, Jorst is pursuing a spot on the U.S. squad for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Follow Charlotte’s inspiring journey as she works to make her dreams a reality!
