World Champion Pony Cefnoakpark Bouncer Performs Driven Dressage Freestyle to Raise Awareness for Pancreatic Cancer
Sunday, October 6, 2013
This spring at the Live Oak International CAI was to have been a very special retirement ceremony for a very special pony and driver. Instead, his owner Sybil R. Humphreys passed away on October 22nd, 2011 due to Pancreatic Cancer. Tragically, as with many people who pass from pancreatic cancer, she only survived 57 days between her diagnosis and her death. Sybil’s World Championship Pony, Cefnoakpark Bouncer, driven by Suzy Stafford who with Bouncer was the first ever US Individual Gold Medalist at the World Pony Combined Driving Championships in England in 2005. Suzy and Bouncer performed the first of several exhibitions across the east coast to raise awareness for this dreaded disease which also took the life of another great horseman and actor, Patrick Swayze. Watch this wonderful freestyle created by Cynthia Collins of Luna Tunes, as Bouncer along with his family, friends, volunteers and supported embarked on a mission to keep Sybil's memory alive by doing good for an important cause.
See what is being done in our nation's capitol to help....
Sybil's husband Wayne Humphreys just attended the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Focus event of the year in Washington DC held June 22-25, 2012. All day workshops, meetings with Congressmen, Senators and/or their staffs focussed on a bill before Congress that over half of the Senators and Congressman have signed on as co-sponsors for this bi-partisan bill. "That is the good news, but the whole story is that it still has not come up for a vote." Wayne told DressageDaily. "The objective of what we are trying to do is get this bill across the goal line and passed."
Go to www.pancan.org/NationalCallin and login and then after becoming aware to call your Congressman and Senators to either thank them for signing on as a co-sponsor or to ask them to co-sponsor. Pancreatic Cancer is the only major form of cancer where the 5 year survival rate is in the single digits ( only 6%). The norm is 5-7 months survival after diagnosis. The survival rate for pancreatic cancer has not improved in the last forty years! "Our country can do better than this! We need a national plan, which we do not have, and we need it now - that is the purpose of this bill."
Bouncer recently gave a "scurry" demonstration with driver Kate Shields at the Upperville Horse Show, and once again Sybil's loving family was on hand with raffle items to continue their fundraising efforts. The color for Pancreatic Cancer is purple, and in the driving world more and more competitors are wearing the color purple in solidarity and in memory of Sybil. You can shop the Pancratic Cancer Action Network "Purple Store" for some items which will help support their efforts.
