Watching the Warm Up Offers a Glimpse at Future Of American Dressage

“Just wait until next year!” USEF Dressage Team Technical Advisor Robert Dover said while clearly happy with the results of the 2013 USEF National Dressage Championships presented by the Dutta Corporation. What was in the works prior to the 2010 Alltech/FEI World Equestrian Games, the overall overhaul of the American Dressage Program demonstrated the fruits of all who have been so passionately committed to building up a program from the Pony Division, through Young Riders, and the Developing Dressage High Performance. On hand to observe and coach were USEF Dressage Trainers Dover, Debbie McDonald and Jeremy Steinberg. Former Technical Advisor for the 2010 World Equestrian Games and 2012 London Olympics Anne Gribbons was back in the judge’s box with a panel clearly pleased with the overall week of competition. The largest FEI Pony Division was represented for the first time, as well as a strong Intermediare Championships, Young Riders, Brentina Cup and Grand Prix Division. German Maestro and long time trainer for Kathleen Raine and Shelley Francis, Johann Hinnemann sat in the warm up arena often with Christine Traurig coaching students and colleagues. As a photographer, one of my favorite spots at the Kentucky Horse Park is the warm up. With the competition in the capable hands of official photographer Susan J Stickle, I enjoyed the perfect weather, with autumn colors popping, and exciting horse and rider combinations, all who deserved to be there.
