USEF Pony Finals Sponsor Supports Decision to Cancel Event
Monday, April 19, 2021 | Mary Phelps
For presenting Sponsor of the USEF Pony Finals, Collecting Gaits Farm this would have been their fifth year. Jeff and Shereen Fuqua have been long time supporters and sponsors of USEF, including past title sponsor of Dressage Festival of Champions for over ten years. In response to the unprecedented cancelation of the 2020 Pony Finals in Lexington, Kentucky, Shereen Fuqua, whose daughter has been a multiple champion is in full support and understanding of the difficult decision made by the USEF, the venue, The Kentucky Horse Park, and Kentucky Horse Shows LLC.

We fully support USEF and Kentucky Horse Shows LLC for the last minute cancellation of USEF Pony Finals. While it was an unfortunate set of circumstances, USEF will be criticized either way. Initially, they chose to let the show go on. However, after the reports of multiple COVID cases, USEF chose safety.
It is always hard to be the bad guy and it is really about personal responsibility. Every single individual should do their part to protect themselves and others from the virus so the country can continue to operate and reopen.
Leaders lead and Monday morning quarter backers complain. The people who complained about USEF last month and led a petition against them to cancel the show were interestingly at the Kentucky Summer & Classic shows. My opinion, if you complain to stay home, then do that, but don’t complain now.
I have supported USEF for 20 years as a competitor, sponsor and mother of competitor and have quietly watched the organization change over the years to become less bureaucratic and more dynamic. If people are willing to commit to doing their part, we can continue enjoying the sport we love and help bring this horrible pandemic to an end.
