Steffen Peters skillfully rode Akiko Yamazaki’s Ravel to win the last North American League World Cup Qualifier this weekend during the final day of the Dressage Affaire in Del Mar, CA. The pair dominated the entire CDI, winning both the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Freestyle with two career highs, one in the Grand Prix and second in the GP Freestyle with an impressive 79.950%. CDI ground jury judge Joan McCartney commented on the ride, “I sensed an atmosphere among the judges and among the spectators that we were all watching a truly special horse perform.” The bleachers were packed in the beautiful covered arena; all focused intently on Peters and Ravel as they danced to the music of Guns 'n Roses' Sympathy for the Devil.

Finishing second in the Grand Prix Freestyle was Leslie Morse riding her own Tip Top 962. Morse and Tip Top earned a score of 73.600%.

Morse was ecstatic with her stallion, “He felt really great. I couldn’t have been more happy with the way he went today. I just love riding in that electric arena.”

When asked about her plans for this year with Tip Top, Morse stated, “I am already qualified for everything with him. It is still early in the show year, but I hope to take him to Europe and show at the CHIO Aachen.”

In third place was Adrienne Lyle on Peggy Thomas’ Felix with a score of 71.500%.

Peters Maintained His Sweep in the CDI Grand Prix with a win on Orion

Steffen Peters won all phases of the CDI Grand Prix division. He finished off the weekend with a win on the Dutch Warmblood gelding Orion (by Jazz) with a score of 70. 208%.

Peters was closely followed by Adrienne Lyle on Wizard. Lyle rode the Oldenburg gelding owned by Peggy Thomas, earning a score of 69. 708%. “I was very pleased with both Felix and Wizard today.

They are both doing very well and felt excellent,” commented Lyle on her two rides.
