Sharn Wordley of Citra, Florida and his own Gatsby wrapped up their time at the Ocala Spring Classics winning the $35,000 Quarry View Building Group’s Grand Prix, besting a field of forty-one horse and rider teams.

Nineteen advanced to the jump off round where the time allowed was set at 46 seconds and only nine posted clear rounds.

“It’s tough when you’re building for a regional standard Grand Prix when you’ve got the sort of quality horses that we had in the class. So, the first round did seem a bit too easy, and the time allowed was a bit slow which is why we had nineteen in the jump off,” commented Wordley.

Jump Off

The first to go in the order was Jenni Mcallister of Ocala, Florida with Tamarian Farms, LLC’s Gant EK. The pair turned in a clear jump off round in 41.069 seconds and set the new time to beat.

Willie Tynan of Wellington, Florida and Michelle Guardino’s Fancy Girl followed as the next clear jump off round and their time of 35.353 seconds took the lead. Wordley and Della Wordley’s Brin D’or De Haute Melen Z turned in the next fault free jump off round, but their time of 39.324 seconds would earn them a seventh-place finish.

Wordley commented, “He [Brin D’or De Haute Melen Z] did one more stride than Gatsby and was a little bit slower. There weren’t a lot of options and you just had to move fast.”

Horse Race

The horse race continued when Scott Keach of Ocala, Florida and his own Wild Thing took to the grand prix arena, posting a clear jump off round in a time of 37.962 seconds which earned them a sixth place overall.

Brooke Kemper of Reddick, Florida in the irons of Bayra LLC’s Bayra turned in a four fault jump off round in a time of 38.671 seconds which placed them eleventh overall.

Tom Foley of Ocala, Florida and Sher Al Farm’s Ibalius SMH turned in a fault free jump off round in a time of 35.200, taking the lead and setting the new time to beat.

Callan Solem of Williston, Florida and Jamie Stryker’s Horion De Libersart followed in the order and despite a rail at the first fence, their time of 38.778 seconds secured them a twelfth- place ribbon.

Claire McDonald of West Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada and Brewport Stables, LLC’s Cadir 5 were the next to go. Despite a fault free jump off round, their time of 41.388 seconds would keep them out of the ribbons.

Lightning Speed

Gatsby and Wordley were up next. The pair flew through the jump off round in a lightning fast 34.005 seconds and took the lead.

Wordley commented, “The jump off was ‘twisty and turny’ and it suited us well.”

Madison Kondracki of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and her own E Storm Cat turned in a four fault jump off round and their time of 36.547 seconds earned them a tenth-place finish.

The next fault free round in the jump off order was Derek Petersen of Archer, Florida aboard his own Zechariah. The pair posted a clear round in a time of 35.945 seconds and secured fifth place.

Tynan and MDM Equestrian Group, LLC’s Ballinteskin Joe were the last clear round in the jump off and their time of 34.203 seconds earned them a second place behind Wordley and Gatsby. Tynan also took home a fourth place with Fancy Girl.

“Tynan and his horse were very fast, and I think we were pretty much neck and neck. There was just one turn back to the yellow oxer where he went a bit wider than I did and I think that’s what earned us the win today,” said Wordley. Foley and Ibalius SMH placed third.

“Since we had so many in the jump off, I thought it was great that the show dragged the ring after half the riders had gone in order to give everyone an equal playing field,” said Wordley.

“I was really pleased to win today’s Quarry View Building Group’s Grand Prix. I actually met with Jane from Quarry View a couple of days earlier and hopefully we’re going to do some work together, so it was nice to win their class today,” added Wordley.

Final results had Mcallister and Gant EK in sixth place and Mcdonald and Cadir 5 in ninth place.

Bob Bell, President of the Classic Company commented, “We were delighted to see so many competing at our shows in Ocala.
