Rodrigo Encinas Fuentes and Van The Man earn the Triple Crown Nutrition Dressage Excellence Award during week ten of the Adequan Global Dressage Festival

Wellington, FL - With a name like “Van The Man”, one would expect greatness in the way of performance in the show ring. During week ten of Adequan® Global Dressage Festival competition, Young Rider Rodrigo Encinas Fuentes and the 17-hand Dutch Warmblood dynamo did not disappoint. The pair piaffed their way to a first place win in the FEI U25 Grand Prix 16-25 with a score of 68.376%, and also earned the Triple Crown Nutrition Dressage Excellence Award for their efforts.

Full of style and performance finesse, 23-year-old Encinas and 16-year-old Van The Man caught the eyes of Triple Crown representatives at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, Florida. In addition to their Grand Prix win, the duo placed second in the FEI Grand Prix Freestyle with a high score of 71.875%, and took fourth during the same week in the FEI Intermediate II. Ultimately, they won the Under-25 Division of the Florida International Youth Dressage Championships.

“Van The Man is my first Grand Prix horse and he has taught me a lot. We have been together the last couple of years, so in the ring we really know each other and can go for it” commented Encinas, a Madrid, Spain native. “It’s a very nice feeling to be riding him; he was really with me. It’s really a great feeling when you can ride a test and the horse is so really with you, and when you ask him to do something he is always willing to go.”

Owned by Dr. Cesar Parra of Piaffe Performance and GK Elite Sport, Van the Man, with Parra aboard, qualified for the Olympic selection trials in 2012. In 2013 the pair won the Individual Silver Medal and the Team Silver Medal for Team USA in the Nations Cup. And in 2014, they competed in the World Cup Final in Lyon, France representing the USA. After competing Van The Man at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival in 2013, 2014, and 2015, Parra graciously handed over the ride to Encinas, his talented, up-and-coming student.

In addition to Parra’s student’s success this weekend, he was also victorious on two mounts in the national arena.  Fashion Designer OLD and Don Cesar both took top honors in their respective classes over the weekend with scores up to 72.941%.

Thrilled with his recent successes down centerline, Encinas was also pleased to receive the Triple Crown Nutrition Dressage Excellence Award, which is reserved for standout competitors and includes a silver engraved plate, a commemorative ribbon, and a complimentary bag of Triple Crown feed. A company that is committed to high-end nutrition for hardworking equine athletes, Triple Crown appreciates all of the time, effort, and dedication that go into showing horses at the highest levels of competition.

With high hopes for his future with Van The Man, Encinas, who has lived in the United States for four years, will continue training with Parra and his Piaffe Performance team in New Jersey and Florida. He commented on his inaugural Adequan Global Dressage Festival experience, saying, “We would like to end up in a good position for riding in the Nation’s Cup and hope to be a part of Team Spain,” he confirmed.
