Mount St. John, an elite stud in the United Kingdom, is celebrating a great start to the year as one of their first foals to be born has been purchased by world-ranked No. 1 Charlotte Dujardin. Dujardin purchased MSJ Finest Hour (Finest x Don Schufro x Brentano II) after waiting with baited breath for the foal’s arrival. Dujardin said, “I’ve been very excited waiting for the first foals of the season to arrive at Mount St. John and can’t wait to see them all at the Open Day in July. This is the third foal I have purchased from the stud now and year after year, I am fascinated with the breeding program Emma adopts to produce these exceptional foals.” Emma Blundell, Managing Director of Mount St. John, made a recent trip to North America to attend a symposium in California where she visited horse shows and stud farms, and met riders, trainers and breeders. Mount St. John also sponsored the California Dressage Society’s Annual Meeting and Symposium in Burbank Jan. 31-Feb. 1. She recently sold a foal to a pleased buyer in California.

Blundell supervises all aspects of the stud and competition management, including the careful selection of world-class stallions to complement the genetic makeup of their mares. Her knowledge of current trends in equine reproduction, especially in embryo transfer, as well as her excellent relationships with top European breeders, ensures success in creating exquisite foals. As a dressage competitor, Blundell also has a keen working knowledge of the traits required in elite sport horses and applies this to the decision making process.

Blundell will next travel to South Florida March 14-20 to meet with riders, trainers and prospective buyers at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival’s CDI-W in Wellington, then head to the 2015 Reem Acra World Cup in Las Vegas, Nevada, April 15-19.

Blundell said, “I’m excited to go back to America. They are very passionate about sourcing and producing top-class competition horses and I’m looking forward to sharing all the news and developments from Mount St. John during my visit.”

Mount St. John foals have already gained praise far and wide among elite dressage competitors including Emile Faurie, Michael Eilberg and Heath Ryan, as well as several purchases have been made by breeders such Lone Boegh Henriksen and Paul Schockemohle. The interest in the forthcoming foals is high and Blundell looks forward to talking with potential buyers in the coming months.
