Oklahoma City, Oklahoma -  The newly formed National Reining Horse Youth Association will hold its first NRHYA Conference during the NRHA Futurity at Oklahoma City. Slated for Thursday, November 29, the conference, titled NRHYA - It's Our Turn will be held at the NRHA Offices on Northwest Tenth Street in Oklahoma City.

According to NRHA Youth Coordinator Alexandra Drenning, the day's agenda will include NRHYA National Officer Elections. "Fourteen delegates from the four regions will campaign for the offices of president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and sentinel. Youth members will then vote for the first NRHYA National Officer team. The team will create a foundation in leadership for the organization and set the pace for the future."

A highlight of the day will be motivational speaker Rhett Laubach of Tulsa, Oklahoma, who will present an educational and interactive workshop to help build leadership and life skills. Also on the schedule is a USET Young Rider Reining Medal update from USET Reining Director Jeff Fox, and a workshop titled “How We Play By The Rules” with USA Equestrian Director of Breeds and Western Disciplines Christina Stewart.

New to the NRHA's list of youth activities is the NRHYA Art and Photo contest. Drenning explains, "This year’s theme is 'Happiness is…' "

Artwork must be created with paint, pencil, or colored pencil. Photographs can be no smaller than 8”X 10”. All work will be judged for subject, technique, and originality and submissions must be received by the NRHA office no later than November 1. Entries will be judged at the NRHA Futurity and winners will be featured in The Reiner magazine.

One of the most successful fund raisers for the NRHA Youth program in recent years has been the Youth Silent Auction, where donated items are displayed for bid during Futurity Week. Drenning added, "We're still accepting donations for this year's auction. Items such as gift baskets, artwork, horse tack and other collectibles would be greatly appreciated. All items are tax deductible and can be sent to the NRHA office or brought to the Futurity."

Friday, November 30, is Oklahoma State 4-H and FFA Day at the NRHA Futurity. 4-H and FFA members from all over the state are invited to attend a series of workshops with well known horse industry personalities. Leading the roster is NRHA Futurity Champion Dell Hendricks of Pilot Point, Texas, and other speakers include Scott Riley of Sundowner Trailers, Inc. Youth are invited to stay and attend the Open Freestyle and Cinch Non Pro Futurity Finals beginning at 6:30 p.m.
