Houston, Texas - A Houston police officer, at the scene said he was checking a truck parked on the street to see if it was stolen when he heard something behind him. He looked into the open storm drain and peeked inside.

“I thought it was a dog," said officer Ronald Prince, "so I jumped back because I thought the dog might be vicious,” the officer said. “Then I went back over and I looked closer and I said, ‘It’s a horse.’”

Well it was actually a Miniature horse, or what some news teams reported as a pony.

How it got there, and who his owners are is still not known, but firefighters and animal experts responded to the scene and sedated the mini while they cut away the metal and concrete surrounding the storm drain before hoisting the pony to safety.

Besides a few cuts on its backside, the pony seemed to be in good condition. It stopped to graze as it was led by emergency officials to a waiting trailer.

“It must’ve been meant for me to save his life today,” the Prince said. “That’s all I can say.”
