Swedish Jumping rider Lisen Bratt Fredricson has been named as the Equestrian sport Athlete Role Model (ARM) for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore this summer. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) this week announced a list of 46 ARMs for the Games, which run from 14 to 26 August.
“I am really honoured to have been named as an Athlete Role Model, especially when you see some of the incredible athletes on the list”, said Lisen Bratt Fredricson.
“We are all looking forward to supporting the young athletes and making the first Youth Olympic Games an amazing experience for them. And I hope that we can inspire them in some way too.”
Lisen Bratt Fredricson represented Sweden at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000 and numbers victory in the Rome Grand Prix in the same year as another highlight of her career.
The IOC list features many legendary names from the world of sport, including Olympic pole vault champion Sergey Bubka, who is Chairman of the IOC Coordination Commission for the 1st Summer Youth Olympic Games. The role models were appointed by the International Federations participating in the Youth Olympic Games and by the IOC Athletes’ Commission.
The Athlete Role Models will be in Singapore to mentor the 3,600 young athletes expected to attend the Youth Olympic Games. Among other activities, the ARMs will spend time with the athletes and will participate in activities during the Culture and Education Programme, which will focus on five themes: Olympism and Olympic values, skill development, well-being and healthy lifestyles, social responsibility and expression through digital media.
The ARMs will also attend the competitions, visit the Youth Olympic Village and feature in “Chat with Champions” forums designed to inspire and educate the athletes with the ARMs’ personal accounts of their dreams and experiences, and the challenges they have overcome.
“Lisen Bratt Fredricson is a wonderful ambassador for equestrian sport and she will truly engage with the Equestrian athletes competing in Singapore”, said Alex McLin, FEI Secretary General. “The Youth Olympic Games offer an incredible opportunity for these athletes to compete on an Olympic stage and Lisen will be a great role model for them.”
