Wellington, FL - Excellence deserves to be served on a silver platter, and that’s exactly what Triple Crown® Nutrition Dressage Excellence Award winners Laura Graves and Verdades received, and metaphorically delivered spectators, during Week 5 of the Adequan® Global Dressage Festival at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, Florida.
The highest-ranked American dressage duo in the world (currently seeded fourth on the FEI global standings) were recognized by Triple Crown as its Week 5 Dressage Excellence Award winners after turning in back-to-back wins in the FEI Grand Prix CDI5* on Thursday (79.543%) and FEI Grand Prix Freestyle CDI5* on Friday (84.375%), including earning the highest individual score so far this season from an Adequan Global Dressage Festival judge, 85.500% and a torrent of accolades to describe their “phenomenal” new freestyle, created in partnership with Terry Gallo.
“All the judges were in agreement,” said Enzo Truppa, the Italian judge at C responsible for the 85.500% score. “I was particularly impressed by Laura’s half-passes. She got very high marks from me.”
Laura, and the17-hand, 16-year-old bay Dutch (Florett AS x Liwilarda x Goya) Warmblood gelding, affectionately known as ‘Diddy’ that she co-owns with Curt Maes, have been as electrifying in their unbeaten string of victories as the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center spotlight they have dominated since the series began. In five starts this season, all at Adequan Global Dressage Festival, they have had five wins.
“He can be difficult to settle in an atmosphere, but I embrace these opportunities because we can’t create them at home, so every chance to train in a difficult situation puts you a little bit ahead of the game. We are so lucky to have this atmosphere because otherwise we would always be playing catch-up to the Europeans who have a lot of opportunities to show in big environments,” she said. In addition to a silver tray, the Triple Crown Dressage Excellence Award winner was presented with a tricolor rosette to add to the string of ribbon Verdades is collecting outside his stall.
“It was the first run-through of the new canter tour of our freestyle. Even though we weren’t using the new FEI floorplan (yet), it was a big part of my preparation for the World Cup Final in Paris, as it will be used in the final. Big thanks to Terry, who always steps in when I have a last minute ‘great idea.’ I couldn’t do it without her and was super pleased with how the music turned out. We have a couple of little tweaks to work on before our next performance at Global.” To see more follow this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QWEO60dWs8
