Wellington, FL - Top dressage riders from around the world have returned to Wellington, Florida for another winter of high-class competition at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival (AGDF). Katie Poag, an FEI Grand Prix dressage competitor and trainer from Charleston, South Carolina, is among these elite competitors - and this year, she is ready to stand out from the crowd more than ever before.

The first week of the winter show series began with Poag’s 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion, Zonnekoning (Florett As x Maraba), being recognized by Omega Alpha Pharmaceuticals for his outstanding health and build. Omega Alpha, an annual sponsor of the Adequan Global Dressage Festival, rewards horses throughout the show series that embody Omega Alpha’s priorities of excellent health. The company is known for formulating effective, all-natural supplements to help any horse achieve excellent health and happiness. Zonnekoning’s willing attitude and impressive muscling caught Omega Alpha’s attention, and earned him the season’s first Omega Alpha Healthy Horse Award. Poag was excited to win the Healthy Horse Award, “Thank you very much for the award, thank you for sponsoring the show and making this possible”.   The award included several equine health supplements from the company, a ribbon sash, and other goodies.

Ever since Poag first purchased Zonnekoning in the Netherlands when he was six years old, she has done all of his training and brought him up through the levels herself. In 2015, Zonnekoning competed in his first Grand Prix, finishing the year as the number one Grand Prix Dutch Warmblood in the United States. At last year’s Adequan Global Dressage Festival, Poag and Zonnekoning first captured the international limelight. “At one of the last shows here at Global last year, we won the Grand Prix Special,” Poag recounted. “We then went to the Tryon Spring show in North Carolina, and won the Grand Prix there. Those are our highlights together so far, and we hope to continue to improve this year and move up.”

The pair achieved their FEI Grand Prix victory at the Tryon International Equestrian Center this past spring with their own personal best score. Now that they are back at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival, they will be ones to watch throughout the season as they work towards even greater success.

“I’m very excited to be here,” said Poag. “We want to continue to improve then hopefully try for bigger competitions, like the World Equestrian Games (WEG) or World Cup. It’s exciting that WEG will be close to home this year!”  Follow this link to watch the video.

Omega Alpha is eager to watch the pair’s success throughout this season, and to support them with the supplements in the Healthy Horse Award. Omega Alpha, based in Toronto, Canada, will spend the rest of the winter in South Florida to reward deserving horses for their top-notch health.
