Wellington, FL - A pinnacle of equine competition in South Florida for over 40 years, the Winter Equestrian Festival is welcoming international-caliber athletes to contest one of the most competitive show series in the world. Jimmy Torano delivered several winning rides aboard the beautiful grey Westfalian gelding Last Dance, and earned the Triple Crown Excellence Award for their stellar performances in the Green Hunter Division during week one of the Winter Equestrian Festival. The Triple Crown Excellence Award is given to a horse and rider pair that demonstrates exemplary achievement within the equestrian community as well as showing exceptionally good health and fitness.

“Last Dance was overall Champion in the Green Hunter 3’ Division, he won the Hunter Style Award, and then the Triple Crown Excellence Award, so he had a heck of a week!” exclaimed Torano. Aboard the coming seven-year-old by Last Man Standing, Torano dominated his division, taking home three blues and one second place ribbon along with Triple Crown’s tri-colored ribbon and an engraved silver platter. A seasoned competitor who rode his first Grand Prix during the WEF in 1989, Torano owns and operates JET Show Stable in Wellington, Florida, and Mohrsville, Pennsylvania, with his wife Danielle.

One of the nation’s top importers of young show jumpers, equitation, and hunter prospects, and also an “R” judge, Torano boasts an impressive resume that includes many big wins both stateside and abroad. In 1989, he competed in the World Cup finals. In 2000 he won the Puissance at the Washington International Horse Show and he has been to numerous World Cup Finals, including the 2000 World Cup Final in Las Vegas. In 1999 he was the leading jumper rider at the National Horse Show in Madison Square Garden. In 2008 he had 15 top 5 finishes in Grand Prix events, and he was the Leading Open Jumper rider on the Vermont Summer Tour in both 2007 and 2008. He competed in the 1999 World Cup Finals in Goteborg, Sweden, and was a member of the 2000 United States Nations’ Cup team in Aachen, Germany.

Commenting on his current successes with Last Dance, Torano said, “The horse was very consistent this week. He is an exceptional jumper; the technique doesn’t get any better, and I was really happy with him. I showed him one other time and he was good, but he was just dynamite this week. Every class we entered he went in and did what he was supposed to do.”

While Torano decided to start off Last Dance’s Winter Equestrian Festival experience in the 3’ Green Hunter division, the pair will up the performance bar a notch by jumping 3’3” in Week Two. He described their ultimate goal for the winter show season, saying, “Our goal, really, is to ride him in World Champion hunter week in the Green Hunter 3’6” Division.”

Setting the stage for the 2018 Winter Equestrian Festival, which concludes at the end of March, The Palm Beach International Equestrian Center is looking forward to many more exciting weeks of intense competition. This year’s circuit will offer more than $9 million in prize money throughout the duration of the season, and will feature many of the world’s top internationally ranked riders.
