Wellington, FL (February 19, 2018) — As longtime sponsors of the Adequan® Global Dressage Festival, Custom Saddlery is once again taking note of outstanding riders during the highly acclaimed 12-week show circuit in Wellington, Florida. During Week Five, Custom singled out California dressage professional Jan Ebeling, naming the Olympic veteran Custom Saddlery’s Most Valuable Rider (MVR). A company well respected for fitting saddles perfectly to any horse, Custom Saddlery is also known for presenting its MVR Award to equestrians like Ebeling who go the extra mile to earn excellent test scores while enhancing the sport of dressage by their participation and exemplary horsemanship.

Ebeling, who owns and operates The Acres in Moorpark, California, made the trip to Florida with several horses that are rising through the ranks towards Grand Prix, and a group of aspiring USDF Young Riders eager to make their mark in the dressage world. Aboard his dynamic partner Indeed V, Ebeling displayed excellence in the arena during a week of stiff competition, earning a 67.647% in the FEI Intermediate I. Indeed V (Hofrat x Gorklintgards Indeera), a towering 17.2-hand 10-year-old bay Danish Warmblood mare, is owned by the Vantage Equest Group II, LLC. Ebeling also rode the impressive gelding Sergio Leone, a coming 10-year-old owned by Ann Romney. The pair competed in the FEI Prix St. Georges, FEI Intermediate I, and FEI Intermediate Freestyle I. The 17-hand bay, sired by Sir Donnerahall and out of a Stedinger mare, earned a high score of 70.667% for his Freestyle effort.

“The shows here in Florida are fantastic,” explained Ebeling of his decision to make the long trek to compete on the East Coast this winter as opposed to campaigning in California. “We purchased a farm here two years ago and we just love it. The shows are great and it’s a wonderful environment. Wellington just has an amazing flair to it. It’s wonderful to see all the riders, well, from all over the world, really.”

Ebeling and his students intend to make the most of their winter show experience in Florida. Detailing where they all are on the training continuum Ebeling said, “We have a couple of nice younger horses, with this 10-year-old mare being the oldest of the horses I have at the moment. I think the Intermediaire I was to just get in the ring and see what she does, but she is pretty much ready for Grand Prix. So we will see what is going to happen. We have a few other ones that are 10, 9, and a few 8 year olds at different levels, developing Prix St. Georges and so forth. So it’s very exciting. The kids that are with me here, my son Ben included, are doing Young Riders and are super exciting to work with.”

Naturally, Ebeling rides numerous horses in a variety of dressage saddles day in and day out, but one horse in particular does well in a Custom saddle adjusted specifically for him. Ebeling explained, saying, “I have one horse, his name is Blenheim (Breitling x Mon Cherie), who did his first Intermediaire, here, that I ride in a Custom Saddle and he did quite well. Must be the saddle, I guess!” he said with a laugh! See the video below

In addition to the California rider’s success on the East Coast, his West Coast comrades were making waves of their own during the 2018 West Coast Dressage Festival IV. Custom’s own riders Steffen Peters, Kathleen Raine, and Catherine Rose Chamberlain were amongst the top placing in their classes over the course of the weekend. Peters and his top two Big Tour horses Rosemunde and Suppenkasper swept both of the CDI Grand Prix classes with over 72%. Chamberlain and Raine also earned strong scores in their respective classes throughout the beginning of the weekend.
