Germany’s Isabell Werth and the 16-year-old mare, Weihegold OLD, won the second leg of the FEI Dressage World Cup™ 2021/2022 Western European League in Lyon, France today when scoring 84.910%.

This was Werth’s fifth consecutive victory at the French fixture, and the horse/rider combination who have reigned supreme at the last three series Finals pinned Denmark’s Nanna Skodborg Merrald and Atterupgaards Orthilia into runner-up spot (83.695%) while Werth’s compatriot, Frederic Wandres, finished third with Duke of Britain FRH (81.640%).

Denmark’s Cathrine Dufour, exciting winner at the first leg on home ground in Herning last weekend with her veteran ride, the 18-year-old Atterupgaards Cassidy, finished fourth today with the very promising nine-year-old Vamos Amigos, (81.135) while Spain’s Beatriz Ferrer-Salat and the impressive gelding Elegance lined up in fifth (80.850%).

Automatically qualified as defending champion, Werth didn’t collect qualifying points so it was runner-up Skodborg Merrald who grabbed the maximum 20 this evening. It is third-placed Wandres however who heads the Western European League leaderboard going into the next round of the nine-leg series in Madrid, Spain in four weeks’ time.

The top nine finishers on the league table will join Werth at the FEI Dressage World Cup™ Final 2021/2022 in Leipzig, Germany next April.
