Hilltop Farm sadly shares the news of Rubinero’s passing. The stallion lived a full life to 25-years of age, the last 8 years of which he resided at Hilltop Farm in our Guest Stallion Program. Rubinero was a favorite with our breeders and our staff and his passing leaves a permanent hole in our hearts.

Perfect 10

Rubinero (Rubinestein-Ex Libris) was bred in Germany by Franz-Josef Wieghaus-Vorwerk and finished 2nd in the dressage phase of his 70-day stallion test with an impressive score of 140+ points. Among the highlights of his test scores were perfect 10’s for his character and rideability, two traits that remained a highlight throughout his career and was a trait he strongly stamped in his offspring.

Rubinero’s competition highlights included qualifying for the Bundeschampionat and finishing Reserve Champion at Rastede. Upon his importation to the US, Rubinero won the USDF Regional Championships at Intermediate I with his owner Dawn Sears.

Successful Sire

As a sire, Rubinero has one approved son, Premium/Elite daughters, and many successful performance offspring to his credit. His offspring are successful in-hand through the FEI classes, including Robinvale who competed at the the World Equestrian Games and European Championships. The praise we hear from those with Rubinero offspring has been a consistent theme in his time in the Hilltop Farm stallion line-up and we look forward to seeing their positive contribution to both breeding and sport in years to come.

Rubinero’s kind and people-oriented character endeared him to all the Hilltop Farm staff who had the pleasure of working with him over the years. His time here at Hilltop was filled with much love and giving us all many positive memories to reflect on in the days ahead. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this special stallion’s life over the years and a special thank you to Rubinero’s owner, Dawn Sears, for entrusting us with this special stallion in his retirement.
