The team representing Germany today, Saturday 8th September, won the BMO Nations’ Cup at Spruce Meadows, with Ireland in second place and The Netherlands in third. In front of a 80,000 crowd enjoying the late summer sunshine, teams from nine countries competed for the CAN$300,000 prize money on a tough Leopoldo Palacios designed course. With only four clears in the first round, six teams went forward into the second round. Germany carried forward four faults and following a second clear round by Daniel Deusser on Cornet d’Amour and four faults by Philipp Weishaupt on Catoki, Hans Dieter Dreher’s eight faults could be discarded and the German team could not be beaten. Christian Ahlmann and Taloubet Z did not have to come out for the second round.
Speaking about his first time experience of competing at Spruce Meadows, Philipp Weishaupt said, “Everyone has always told me that it is very special here and for me, it is one of the top two or three shows in the world. The facilities, the jumps, the spectators, the sponsors, the prize money – everything is just top, top level.”
“Winning the Nations Cup is a great experience for us and we are all really happy.”
