Fourth of July at Aachen Has German/American Theme
Sunday, July 5, 2009
American born show jumping rider now married to German show jumping rider Markus Beerbaum won the “Best of the Best” Competition at Aachen in today’s showjumping highlight in the great arena, beating three men in a rotation of horses competition.
German born Dressage Champion Steffen Peters rode to victory today, July 4 at the Meggle Grand Prix Special CDIO at Aachen CHIO, Germany, taking his second victory gallop after winning the Aachen Grand Prix on Thursday.
Speaking in both German and English at the press conference for the Grand Prix Special Steffen Peters talked about his winning ride, if just by a fraction to Anky Van Grunsven (NED) and Salinero, in today’s Meggle Grand Prix Special CDIO at Aachen.
“It was a great competition today. I was surprised at how fresh he felt. There was one extension where he was a little over reactive. I pushed him gently but he gave me a very big reaction. After that he really settled down into the test. His half passes were really pretty forward again. I took a risk in the extended canter. The right pirouette wasn’t as good as it can be, but flowing in the flying changes. I think great for the sport how tight it was today. That is what competition is all about.
When asked if he felt more German or American Peters responded, “Noting today was the fourth of July in both languages, Peters delivered his It’s always fun to come back to Germany for family and friends, still live in Germany and I have a lot of support here, But my heart beats for America.
