Oscar Colt Champion of the 2010 KWPN Stallion Licensing

A bay colt by Oscar x Corleone has been proclaimed champion of the 2010 KWPN Stallion Licensing in Den Bosch, The Netherlands, on February 6, 2010. The champion is bred and owned by Gert Willem van Norel. The young stallion is by Oscar out of keur and preferent mare MacBeth and is a full brother to the 2009 Pavo Cup finalist Anne Beth. Owner Van Norel had more reason to celebrate because three of six premium stallions in the KWPN champion's ring were out of stallions that he is standing at stud:

Oscar, Uphill and Winningmood. He also owns the reserve champion of the licensing: Charming Utopia (by Winningmood out of Vigilant Utopia (by Oscar). Charming Utopia is bred by Eimert Fikse and was purchased by Van Norel as a foal.
Charmeur (by Florencio x Jazz) finished third in the premium ring, followed by Carlton Hill (by Uphill x Vincent), Cennin (by Vivaldi x Donnerhall) and Chopin H (by Johnson x Gribaldi).

The KWPN Select Sale, the auction following the licensing, was not of a super money-making event this year. The price highlight sold for "only" 90,000 euro. Stud farm De Sterrenhof acquired the jumper Countdown H (by Cornet Obolensky x Corland) for this knock down price.

Charming Mood (by Winningmood x Contango) sold for 80,000 euro, Chagall (by Jazz x De Niro) for 75,000 euro and Colijn (Son de Niro x Ulster) for 60,000 euro. Thirty-one stallions were sold and the average price for a stallion was 34,355 euro, which is 3000 euro lower than in 2009.

Gribaldi Preferent Sire
The Trakehner licensed stallion Gribaldi has been proclaimed "preferent" sire by the KWPN society. The 17-year old black stallion by Kostolany x Ibikus has earned the preferent title through his offspring which is internationally successful in the equestrian sport.

Gribaldi is bred by Marika Werner in Germany and is out of elite mare Gondola II. He was sold as a foal to Otto Langels, who presented him at the Trakehner Stallion Licensing in 1995. He sold at the auction following the licensing for 300,000 DM (150,000 euro) to Dutch stallion owners Joop van Uytert and Rinus de Jong. In 1996 Gribaldi was approved by the KWPN society.

Gribaldi was proclaimed Elite Stallion by the Trakehner society in 2003 and keur stallion by the KWPN society in 2004. In 2008 he was Trakehner Stallion of the Year.

Gribaldi's most successful offspring are Grand Prix horses Totilas and Painted Black, while other famous get are FEI horses Gameboy, Zardin Firfod, Sisther de Jeu, Ruby and the American owned Rifradin (owner: Doug Leatherdale, rider Helena Espinosa).

Totilas KWPN Horse of the Year 2009
Kees and Tosca Visser's KWPN stallion Moorlands Totilas  (by Gribaldi x Glendale) has been proclaimed KWPN Horse of the Year 2009. The 2009 European Champion is the world record holder in the Grand Prix and Kur to Music.
