The following information is unchanged from the previously posted newsletters:
• This year's WEP will include special study sessions to start preparing for the written tests at the Youth Dressage Festival (July 12-14, 2013).

We have had to update the required reading list for YDF. Carl Hester's book, Down to Earth Dressage, is temporarily out of print and has been difficult to find. For those that already have the book, please continue to study it. But for those who cannot get Down to Earth Dressage, please read Hollie McNeil's 40 Fundamentals of English Riding instead. There will be two separate study guides and two separate tests at YDF.

The updated required reading list is as follows:

  • Through 10 years - USPC D Manual of Horsemanship, 2nd edition, by Susan Harris
  • Everyone over 10 years - #16 All About Worms (Photo Guide), by Sonia Davidson
  • Ages 11-13 - Riding Through, by Debbie McDonald
  • Ages 14-17 - Down to Earth Dressage, by Carl Hester Or 40 Fundamentals of English Riding, by Hollie McNeil
  • Ages 18-21 - How Good Riders Get Good, by Denny Emerson

The books will be available for purchase at WEP, or you can order online from Knight Equestrian Books at

Study objectives for all of the books (except for 40 Fundamentals) are attached to this email and will also be posted to the Dressage4Kids website at a later date. The study guide for 40 Fundamentals will be provided later.
