Charlotte Dujardin - Winner of The REEM Acra Best Athlete Award at the FEI Awards 2013
Charlotte Dujardin - Winner of The REEM Acra Best Athlete Award at the FEI Awards 2013
It seems like a British invasion this week with many things going on with British riders this week. Let's start with Laura Tomlinson (formerly Bechtolsheimer) announcing that she would be retiring her long time partner Mistral Højris at Olympia, the London International Horse Show. Charlotte Dujardin is once again in the news receiving the The REEM Acra Best Athlete Award at the FEI Awards 2013. And finally Charlotte's horse Valegro is being honored as the 2013 most successful horse on the WBFSH Dressage Ranking. Over here in the US, the Palm Beach Dressage Derby which has been a South Florida tradition since 1983 had been canceled but it is now back on at a new venue! On a sweet note, after the news of a mare being stabbed brutally spread through the horse community, donations poured into the clinic where the mare was being treated. So much that the surplus was able to start a fund to help others in need.As we head into the weekend before Thanksgiving, it is of course a very quiet time for horse showing. We do, however, have a few out there staring in Arizona with the Tucson Dressage Fall Festival I and II in Tuscon. California has the Dressage Getaway Inc. in Thermal and Mississippi rounds out the weekend with the Turkey Trot Dressage in Hernando.

Great Britain's Laura Tomlinson (formerly Bechtolsheimer) will celebrate the end of an era when her long time partner Mistral Højris officially retires in an evening ceremony at Olympia, the London International Horse Show. The dynamic duo helped put Great Britain on its path to becoming one of the dominant forces in modern dressage! From medals at the FEI European Championships for Juniors and Young Riders to the Olympic Games - the pairs 8 year partnership success cannot be deinied. Read more about their accomplishments here!

Speaking of fellow Brit - Charlotte Dujardin has added another high honor when she was recently awarded The Reem Acra Best Athlete Award presented by HRH Princess Haya, President of the FEI in Montreux, Switzerland! Charlotte's partnership with the fabulous Valegro is stuff that dreams are made of with their meteoritic rise to the top with medals eveywhere and record smashed in their wake. Read about Charlotte's award and see who else received honors at the FEI Awards 2013.

Let's take the British element one step further. Maartje and Joop Hanse, the breeders of 2013 European dressage champion Valegro, will be honoured in a special ceremony in Doha, Qatar, for being the breeders of the 2013 most successful horse on the WBFSH (The World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses) Dressage Ranking. In addition to Valegro, the top FEI Showjumper and Eventer's breeders will also be honored at the ceremony. Read More here!

The Palm Beach Dressage Derby CDI W is a South Florida tradition being held every year since 1983 and it was announced earlier this year that the event was to be canceled due to contractual reasons. While the Derby was a mainstay at White Fences Equestrian Estates, the show will now move to International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) and will take place February 27 to March 2, 2014 pending approval from the USEF. Read More about the Derby here and see more shows on the schedule for Florida!

Good samaritains are so refreshing and reminds us all that there is still plenty of good people willing to do good things! A young girls horse was brutally stabbed 8 times in a, yet unsolved, October attack near Greenville. When word spread throughout the horse community donations poured into the Clay Hill Animal Clinic to help pay for Ruby's expenses. So much so that a new fund was started with the surplus! Read more about Ruby's story here!
