The Markel/USEF Developing Horse Dressage National Championships presented by HorseShow.com was held this past weekend with the top 4, 5 and 6-Year-Olds as well as Developing Prix St Georges and Grand Prix going head to head to claim to be the best Young horse in the U.S. for 2013! Also this past weekend was highly anticipated Blue Hors FEI European Dressage Championship in Herning, Denmark. With the medals up for grabs from so many worthy combinations it was anyones guess who would come out on top! The Grand Prix record was broken, the Special had drama galore and the Freestyle was top notch, quality competition and super high scores with the top 8 all scoring over 80%, but the ultimate Kur winner brok 90%!! The JYSK FEI European Para-Dressage Championships were also held in Herning this past weekend and Great Britain once again proved to be a force to be reckond with in Para-Dressage compeition. Great Britain took three gold and two silver medals across 5 grades in the individual Freestyle. Austria and the Netherlands were the two nations that blocked Great Britain from a sweep. Brentina, one of the United States most successful dressage horses, has undergone a second surgery for a bout of colic. Brentina, along with her rider Debbie McDonald, brought the U.S. a World Cup Championship in 2003 and represented us in the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games where they lead the U.S.Team to a bronze medal in the 2004 Athnes Games. Lutipold Animal Health has announced that it expects to release Adequan products once again in late August. The production of Adequan® IM, Adequan® IA, and Adequan® Canine was unable to happen due to the renovation and upgrades being made to its New York manufacturing facility. Get more information here.
TheHorse.com has a fun story about a study that was done to test the youthful playfulness of horses. They studied a group of 46 adult horses aged 3-29 after evaluating each horses sociability rating. Then they placed the horses in their home pens with three different objects to see what each horse would do and how they reacted to each object.
