As the country turns its head towards the Christmas and Hanukkah holiday season and all that it entails, along with the winter season settling on country, the show season has quietly wound down with the exception of a few dates. Florida marches on with the Orlando Winter Classic in Apopka and the Wellington Classic Holiday Challenge will take place in West Palm Beach and California will host the Dressage Holiday Special in Burbank.
This past week has revealed many new up and coming horses for U.S. Dressage! Steffen debuted one of his new horses, Sundance 8, at the USDF convention along with other notable FEI West Coast riders as Shannon Peters, David Blake, Leslie Morse, Adreienne Lyle and Jan Ebeling all showing off their newest "toys". Oh, only if Santa would be so kind! Steffen also had the pleasure of announcing his newest Grand Prix horse Legolas, who will arrive from Hof Kasselmann in Hagen Germany very soon! Another major step forward for U.S. dressage is the announcement that there will be a USDF National Championships that will take plae in 2013 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington! The competition will be a "a head to head competition showcasing Adult Amateur and Open riders at Training Level through Grand Prix." This is according to the USDF President George Williams a decision 20 years in the making! Check it out!
Tickets for the 2012 World Dressage Masters CDI 5* Palm Beach Presented by International Polo Club are now on sale! The competition will be held at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center in West Palm Beach from January 26-28, 2012. To say that the competition will be super is an understatement with dressage stars Totilas and Ravel topping the marque! Find the details here!
The Chronicle of the Horse reports that there is a joint effort underway between Dressage at Devon and the Devon Horse Show to raise funds that will be used to renovate and replenish the footing in the warm-up arena with euro-felt that was a hit with competitors around the world. With the new footing, the Historic facility will elevate itself one step closer to an international facility! Check it out!
Eurodressage.com has reported that Isabell Werth has risen to the top of the German Equestrian Federation's rider's Ranking for 2011. The rankings are based on scores earned between October 1, 2010 and September 30, 2011. Werth reigned supreme with a total point ranking of 177,620! Read More Here!
On a "Happy Ending" vibe to close out this week's News Notes - in Novemeber, Kristin Soares took her three horses on a trail ride with friends and when one became spooked and bolted...he simply disappeared in the forest. Luckily after much sorrow and worry (not to mention much effort to locate Flash), a hunter came upon her and all lived Happily Ever After.....check out the details and video here!
