This past weekend the Global Dressage Forum was held in Hooge Mierde, The Netherlands and there was both harmony and discord among the attendees that included professionals, judges, journalist, riders and fans of dressage.Carl Hester, Kyra Kyrklund and Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein led this years dressage demonstrations which were "Beautiful, light and sensible work with work-in-progress horses stood testimony for the great training philosophy and horsemanship". Ulla Salzgeber and Herzruf's Erbe emerged as the winner of the 2nd leg of the REEM/ACRA World Dressage Master's competition in Lyon, France. This leg of the competition was German dominated with Isabell Werth/Warum Nicht taking second and Monica Theodorescu coming in 3rd with Whisper. Dressage fans are trying to raise more than 1 million dollars by June 1, 2012 to "renovate the existing dressage complex at the front of the Lexington park next summer." Supporters would like the facility, while already good, to receive improved drainage, footing and arena usage which would put the venue on par with the Alltech Arena and the Rolex Stadium. New Zealand has made Olypmic History by qualifying it's first ever Dressage Team for the 2012 London Olympic Games! While the teams that accomplished this historical event should be proud, they are not neccessarily the combinations that will represent New Zealand at the actual Olympic Games. Horse & Hound has reported that there seems to be much confusion over obtaining a visa that would allow Olympic hopefuls to train in the UK. The home office has created a new Olympic Games Vista Visa last summer which allows multiple visits of up to six months until Novemebr 8, 2012 yet ine rider is now stranded in France trying to obtain the new visa.
