Toronto, Canada— Inspiring performances by U.S. Dressage riders Steffen Peters and Sabine Schut-Kery earned accolades not only in Toronto but also in Aiken, South Carolina, where Custom Saddlery was keen to salute two of its MVRs (Most Valuable Riders) for their contributions toward a Team Gold medal and a ticket to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The U.S. Pan American Dressage Team, whose overall score of 460.506 clinched the Team Gold Medal, included Small Tour riders Schut-Kery on Sanceo, co-owned with Alice Womble, and Kimberly Herslow on Kiroli Enterprises LLC's Rosmarin. Big Tour riders were Peters, on Four Winds Farm's Legolas 92, and Laura Graves on her own Verdades. “What could be better for a Chef d’Equipe than to bring a team and have them earn personal bests at a very important moment. Having earned qualification for the Olympic Games, it allows us to focus our energy for Rio,” said Robert Dover, U.S. Chef d'Equipe, who accompanied the Pan American Games Dressage Team to Canada.
Custom Saddlery MVR Schut-Kery and the expressive nine year-old Hanoverian stallion were the first American pair down centerline in Toronto, and their clean changes and precise pirouettes in their FEI Intermediaire I test earned a 73.553% that immediately established the Americans as contenders. “Our test felt really good,” Schut-Kery said. Peters, a three-time Olympic veteran who won Individual Bronze in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and is now qualified for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, also won Team and Individual Gold at the 2011 Pan American Games. Custom Saddlery cheered Peters on as he repeated both victories in Toronto.
The Custom MVR, who rode Legolas 92 to a 72.667% in their Grand Prix Special to maintain a winning margin, was gracious in his praise of the teams that shared Toronto's medals podium: “The Canadians did a wonderful job. They rode extremely well and gave us quite the run; it wasn’t easy.” Canada took the Team Silver medal with a score of 454.938 while Brazil rode to the Team Bronze on 414.895. Custom Saddlery is respected for producing handcrafted saddles made of the finest materials. The saddles are known for their superior fit for all types of horses and riders.
The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) has further enhanced the saddle maker’s reputation by welcoming Custom Saddlery as the Official Saddle of the U.S. Dressage Team through the 2016 Olympics. “With Custom Saddlery’s attention to design and craftsmanship, we could not think of a better partner for our Dressage Team,” USEF CEO Chris Welton said. “We are thrilled with the U.S. Team’s victory," says Cary Wallace, Master Saddle Fitter and President of Custom Saddlery.
“So many of our team riders are already in Custom saddles.” Top riders who choose Custom Saddlery include Schut-Kery; Peters, whose own Custom signature saddle series includes the Steffen’s Advantage, Steffen’s Advantage Buffalo, Steffen’s Advantage Monoflap, and Wolfgang Solo; and Heather Blitz, who joined Peters on the 2011 US Pan American Games Team Gold squad. For U.S. Dressage Team Small and Big Tour riders, Custom Saddlery remains a natural fit.
