Wellington, FL - Custom Saddlery, a saddle-fitting company known for its quality and service, has been awarding a Most Valuable Rider (MVR) prize during all twelve weeks of the highly competitive Adequan® Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida. A longtime sponsor of this prestigious event that grows bigger each year, the company rewards outstanding riders who demonstrate correct training, receive excellent test scores and show exemplary sportsmanship.

In the Adequan Global Dressage Festival’s final week, the Most Valuable Rider award went to Sabine Schut-Kery on the stunning bay Hanoverian stallion Sanceo. The pair scored an excellent 73.109% in the FEI Grand Prix CDIO3* and 72.872% in the Grand Prix Special CDIO3*, placing second in both classes to U.S. Olympian Adrienne Lyle on Salvino. The competition was fierce, but the German native and now a U.S. citizen hopes to be one of eight combinations chosen to train and compete in Europe this summer.

From Thousand Oaks, California, Schut-Kery began her journey with Sanceo when the horse was barely 3 years old. Owners Alice Womble-Heitman and Dr. Mike Heitman of Horsegate Ranch in Hempstead, Texas, bought the youngster (San Remo x Ramiro’s Son II) in Germany for her to train, and team Sanceo has never looked back. Now 12 years old, the horse has been slowly brought up the levels, leaving a trail of winnings in his wake. When at the Prix St. Georges level in 2015, the pair won a team gold medal at the Pan American Games.

“I was really happy with him today,” says Schut-Kery, “even with the change in the weather. Florida is not as cold as California is right now, so it is a change for us, but I was super happy with my ride today.” She describes Sanceo lovingly. “His kindness, willingness and interest in the work makes him fun to work with, and he is really special to me.” To keep her big boy in top form, she says, “I try to have a balance between doing correct training and keeping him happy so that he enjoys what he is doing.”

Schut-Kery also has a history of delighting audiences with extraordinary equestrian exhibitions. Originally from Krefeld, Germany, she was classically trained by Jan Bemelmanns before completing her official “Bereiter” exam. Then she went on to study with Jan Nivelle and Stefanie Meyer-Biss. In 1998, she came to the United States to be the head trainer at Proud Meadows in Texas where she trained Friesians and competed in dressage at all levels and gave exhibitions. In 2005, she moved to California where she continues to train, compete and win awards.

Custom Saddlery is proud to recognize equestrians like Schut-Kery who count on their saddles to deliver superior performance, balance, and comfort in the competitive arena as well as when schooling at home. For earning the MVR award, Schut-Kery received a commemorative ribbon, a special embroidered saddle cover, and a $150 gift certificate towards the purchase of a saddle.
