The ChicagoEquestrian.com Hunter Derby Series heads to it's final derby this Sunday, September 27th at the IHJA B Finals Horse Show at Ledges Sporting Horses. Thanks to Showplace Productions, a derby was held at every B horse show during the 2015 show season. In addition, four special derbies were offered at double points, to give riders the opportunity to experience different derby environments.

The series showcased exceptional hunter derby venues, courses, education, hospitality and generous prizes including series awards for leading horse, top professional, leading junior rider, leading amateur rider and more. The jump heights of 2', 2'6" and 3', allow riders still building skills to try a derby they would otherwise not get a chance to try due to higher fence heights.

Brenda Mueller, President of Chicago Equestrian, came up with the idea three years ago and it has continued to grow, providing opportunity for all riders at all levels in the Chicago area to participate. "I wanted to do something to help the industry," said Mueller. "Derby riding builds skills that are useful in any division plus the derbies are another path and challenge for hunter riders, now with increased prize money and events for hunters. The Chicago Equestrian Derby series is a way for everyone to participate in derbies."

Special thanks to Showplace Productions for holding one of the special derbies during the popular Spring Spectacular Show and to Palladia Farm for sponsoring the fantastic brunch. Thank you to Brookwood Farm, Rush and Caroline Weeden and Diane Carney for hosting a derby at the beautiful Chicago Hunter Derby location and to Wisconsin Equine Clinic for sponsoring the fantastic lunch. Carney also offered a clinic opportunity for riders after the event to review the judges cards and re-ride parts of the course.

Old Seoul Equestrian also partnered with Chicago Equestrian to be part of the series. Their spectacular event, now in it's third year, featured clinicians Maggie Jayne and Haylie Jayne Rolfe for a day of education along with great hospitality, sponsored by Wisconsin Equine Clinic, and other special events for a unique derby weekend.

The IHJA B Finals Show and Showplace Productions, are hosting the final double point derby and a brunch, sponsored by Devoucoux. The series leading rider and horse awards will be presented after the derby.
