Last years’ winner of the Four-Year-Old Division at the Markel/USEF National Young Horse Championships are a year older, a year wiser, and ready for the trip from Malibu, California to St Charles, Illinois. His rider, 25-year-old Carly Taylor-Smith has had a great season leading with the American bred Oldenburg gelding by Rosenthal, out of Legacy by Salut. “Ludo” is a New York native born on North Hill Farm, bred by Maggie Neider, and is owned by Carly’s Mom, Nikki Taylor-Smith.

“Ludo is such an amazing horse and has been on top form this show season.” Said Carly. “We have had great results in the Young Horse qualifying classes and so we will see how it goes at the finals.”

The first time was a charm in 2014 when they won the 4-year-old division, and Carly and her Mom, “thoroughly enjoyed” their time at the beautiful Lamplight Equestrian Center.

Taylor-Smith is totally focused on the path she has taken with her talented young prospect, and has her sights set on the World Young Horse Championships for 2016 when Ludo is six. “The Markel/USEF Young Horse Program in this country is a very good foundation for young horses and keeps the training on the right tracks. Having the developing Prix St Georges and the Developing Grand Prix is a great addition to the Young Horse classes; it is so important to encourage riders/trainers/owners to advance these young horses to Grand Prix, which could lead to more team prospects for the USA.

Carly Taylor-Smith thanks Markel, USEF, USDF, The Dutta Corp, AGCO, Dressage Today and “All the other sponsors and volunteers who will be helping make this show a great event! A thank you to all my friends, clients, co-workers and to my sponsors, Eurofit, Dresch Saddlery, Ridewell Equine for supporting me. But the biggest thank you goes to my parents, especially my mum and owner of Rosalut, whom has been by my side every step of the way since day one.”
