The Black Prong Equestrian Village located just due west of Ocala is moving fast forward in becoming a premier winter training center and go-to show location for the Carriage Driving community. A full schedule of events, sanctioned by The American Driving Society (ADS) has been added to the Florida Driving schedule, created to be cost-effective, fun, and productive for all levels of drivers. The Black Prong Combined Test and Driving Derby Series kicked off November 17 with the first Combined Test, and Driving Derby of the 2021/2022 season.

The strategy was to complement the existing Florida circuit featuring three USEF sanctioned shows with a series of Combined Tests (Dressage and Cones) and a fun-filled Driving Derby Challenge. These events are scheduled on dates in the midweek, which can be a tune-up for drivers heading for other nearby events all within a 2-hour drive.

The first of the series which is offering prize money was held November 17-18, starting with the Combined Test on the 17, and the Derby on the 18. Licensed Driving Judge Marcie Quist officiated at the inaugural event, coming from Southern Pines, NC. The Combined Test series runs through March, and culminates with the Black Prong Driving Derby Finals on March 30, 2022. In addition, February 11-13, 2022 will offer the Black Prong Dressage Festival, another opportunity for drivers to perfect their skills.

A year-round community of drivers surrounding the facility located on the edge of the Goethe Forest, are now benefitting from the collaboration of organizer Jennifer Matheson, owners Reid and Sarah Nagle, and the efficient and committed Black Prong team.

Living up to their commitment to the Driving community upon his purchase of the facility in 2019, the Nagles have grown the vision of Alan and Maureen Aulson who created the Black Prong twenty years before. The Nagles hit the ground running with massive upgrades, creating a collection of first-class facilities for both the equestrian and the equine, as well as a destination location for RV'ers and travelers, seeking a unique getaway.
