Oklahoma City, Okla., November 29, 2015 - The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) is proud to announce the newest champions crowned at this year’s Adequan North American Affiliate Championships (NAAC). Though a cold front hit Oklahoma City today, and the lights went out a couple of times, reiners kept the competition ‘hot’ and lit the stage in Barn 8 – at State Fair Park - where the Adequan NAAC are being held!

Steppin Little Lena is a 4-year-old palomino stallion by Wimpys Little Step and out of Collena O Lena (by ARC Matt O Lena), and is owned by Mary Jansma. With Derek Heitland in the saddle, he slid to the highest step of the podium in the Limited Open Championship.

“This horse was not shown as a 3 year old and the reins passed on to me at the beginning of this year,” said Derek who was thrilled with the two titles earned. “We had an instant connection and he’s been great to show. ‘Ask and you shall receive’ is his motto!” said the NRHA Professional from Rockwell, IA. “He’s been easy to train, he’s super good minded and I truly love him.” Derek Heitland qualified at the North Central Regional Affiliate Championship and rode for the North Central Reining Horse Association.

Taking the reserve championship was Michelle Chapman riding West Coast Beach Boy (West Coast Whiz x Reminics Command x Reminic) for owner Kevin Williams. “It’s been really fun and my horse, ‘Hoby’, was really good! He was there for me, he was listening for me, he was waiting for me to call on him and he delivered!” said Michelle. “I’ve had him for three years and it’s been good from year one. We actually won the Rookie Pro Championship in 2013. He’s a huge hearted horse who always wants to please you and is really honest.”

Michelle Chapmann qualified at the Mountain Affiliate Regional Championship and rode for the Western Slope Reining Horse Association.

Tying for third place was Justin Michels riding That’s My Juicy (Smart Like Juice x Hangten Stunt Girl x Hangten Peppy), for Joan Julen, and Josefine Spangfors riding Shiners Banjo (Banjo Whiz x Shiners Hustler x Shining Spark) for Euro-Vets Inc. The two closed their performance with a 210.
