The identity of one of the best dressage horses in the world has been revealed. German Ulla Salzgeber’s Rusty is not a Russian, but a Latvian bred warmblood. The Latvian Equestrian Federation supplied the FEI with the information of two Latvian horses, namely Salzgeber’s Rusty and Helena Weinberg’s show jumper Vento. Rusty was born on the Burtnieki stud farm on 2nd April 1988. In 1990 the liver chestnut two-year-old was sold to Belarus, from which he moved to Germany. Rusty, named "Rotors" on his pedigree papers, is by Rebuss out of Akra. Under owner Ulla Salzgeber the Latvian won the individual silver medal at the 1999 European Championships and bronze at the 1998 World Championships in Rome. Salzgeber was recently quoted regarding her favorite mount in Hose International Magazine; "Rusty is now 12 years old and has everything in his head. He knows what to do and how to do it perfectly."
