Hough Starts USET Spruce Meadows Tour Winning The $25,000 Promark Cup

Gladstone, New Jersey-September 6, 2001-2000 Sydney Olympic Show Jumping team member, Lauren Hough of Ocala, FL, started the United States Equestrian Team (USET)’s CSIO Spruce Meadows’ tour in Calgary, Canada, September 5 -9, winning the $25,000 Promark Cup.
 
Hough, riding Windy City, owned by Peppercorn Ltd., was clear with the fastest time of 56.71 seconds, beating 2000 Olympic German Team Gold Medalist Ludger Beerbaum, who finished in a time of 56.91 seconds. Veteran USET rider, Rich Fellers of Wilsonville, OR was third with Amos, owned by Harry and Mollie Chapman.
 
Earlier in the day, Fellers won the $8,500 Gienow Jumper Welcome class with a clear round on Andy, owned by Harry and Mollie Chapman.
 
Along with Hough, the USET’s CSIO Spruce Meadows team include Hough’s 2000 Olympic teammate Margie Goldstein-Engle of West Palm Beach FL, and team alternate Todd Minikus of Loxahatchee, FL, along with Beezie Patton Madden of Cazenovia, NY. George Morris is Chef d’Equipe.
 
Engle competes on her Olympic mount Hidden Creek’s Perin, owned by Hidden Creek Farm. Minikus, who recently won a string of Grand Prix that included the $175,000 Cargill Grand Prix of the United States and the $100,000 Rolex/USET Show Jumping Championship, will compete with his horse Oh Star. Madden returns to Spruce Meadows with Judgement, owned by Iron Spring Farm, whom she rode to a second place finish at Spruce Meadows in the ATCO Power Queen Elizabeth II Cup in July.
