The Jumping Final Four Resulted in One Gold Medal for Philippe Le Jeune at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™
Sunday, October 10, 2010 | Mary Phelps
From a field of 121 riders, it was down to just four on Saturday night for the Jumping World Championships at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky, USA. In a true test of skill, the Final Four challenged the riders to compete on their competitors’ horses. The master of all four horses turned out to be Belgium’s Philippe Le Jeune. Abdullah Al Sharbatly of the Kingdom of Saudia Arabia stepped in to take the silver while Eric Lamaze of Canada seized the bronze.
Jumping, however, was not the only intense battle underway at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. Following dressage tests, the driving competition saw an unprecedented two ties going into the marathon phase. As expected, all ties were broken with the Netherlands now moving into a strong lead and Australia’s Boyd Exell taking the reins for gold medal position going into Sunday’s final obstacle phase. Vaulting medals were also decided at the Alltech Arena following freestyle individual tests. At the top of the medal podium stood Switerland’s Patric Looser as the new men’s world champion vaulter and Great Britain’s Joanne Eccles as the women’s world champion.
