Frankie Thieriot Stutes Travels Cross Country to Win USEF CCI3* Eventing National Champion at Fair Hill

Thieriot Stutes, a USET Foundation Jacqueline B. Mars International Competition National Developing Rider Grant recipient, also took home the USEF Developing Rider National Championship and the Alexander MacKay Smith Trophy, awarded to the highest-placed U.S. competitor in the CCI3* that is 18 years of age or older and who has not yet completed a CCI4* event.
Fair Hill, Md. – Frankie Thieriot Stutes’s trek from California to the 2018 The Dutta Corp. Fair Hill International Three-Day Event proved to be worth every mile on Sunday as the amateur rider was crowned The Dutta Corp./USEF CCI3* Eventing National Champion. She is joined in the winner’s circle by Boyd Martin, who was the winner of The Dutta Corp./USEF CCI2* Eventing National Championship and reserve champion of the CCI3*.
Thieriot Stutes (Occidental, Calif.) dominated the competition from start to finish with Chatwin, a 10-year-old Oldenburg gelding owned by The Chatwin Group. They had a rail in hand, but made no use of it to finish on their dressage score of 27.3. In addition to the national championship title, the combination takes home the Guy V. Henry Memorial Trophy and the United States Equestrian Team (USET) Foundation Gladstone Trophy, awarded to the highest-placed U.S athlete in the CCI3*.
“I think this week I was psyched thinking about how grateful I am for all the incredible people in my life – Chatwin is certainly at the top of the list,” Thieriot Stutes said. “I think everyone would agree that it’s the people that get you where you are going, and I’m feeling incredibly lucky and grateful to be here.”

Martin (Cochranville, Pa.) finished as The Dutta Corp./USEF CCI3* Eventing Reserve National Champion with Long Island T, a 12-year-old Oldenburg Thoroughbred gelding owned by the Long Island T Syndicate. Martin produced a double-clear round for a three-phase result of 33.4.
Buck Davidson (Reddick, Fla.) and Maya Simmons’s Archie Rocks rounded out the weekend in third. The 10-year-old Thoroughbred gelding had one rail down for a final score of 36.4.
