This is an amazing video of Bill Steinkraus riding Snowbound to the Olympic Gold Medal in Mexico City, 1968. Below, you can see the lion hearted 14.2 Stroller jumping the biggest Olympic course of all time to win the Silver Medal, David Broome was the Bronze Medalist for Great Britain.
These jumps were enormous and the big oxer was only cleared by two horses and riders. Can any of us imagine a 14.2 h.h. pony jumping a full Olympic course of such magnitude, WOW? It just shows us what a freak of nature Stroller was, he absolutely believed that he was a horse. However, this clip is about Bill and Snowbound taking the Gold.
I remember seeing this on British television and we were all stunned at the height of these jumps. Even in those days on a small T.V. screen they looked enormous. Thank you to all the horses and riders of the Golden Age of Show Jumping for presenting us with such thrills of a time gone by, never to be repeated.
Harvey Smith with Paddy McMahon have written the forward on my book. “The Golden Age of Show Jumping.”To buy the book of the Golden Age of Show jumping your local book shop will order it for you or just go direct to Amazon or Barnes & Noble on line, thank you! While there, you can also pick up my children’s book, Toby Rogue. This wonderful book of a mischievous little pony like the Golden Age of Show Jumping has many five star reviews already on Amazon.
