In Memoriam – Carol Lynn Smith

Carol Lynn Smith of Montverde, FL went home to be with her Heavenly Father on August 26th, 2019. She was pre-deceased by her father, Robert Work and mother, Helen Wilson of Detroit, Michigan. She is survived by her sisters Marilyn Kasko of Fresco, Texas, Linda Work of Castle Rock, Colorado and brother Robert Work of Troy, Michigan. Carol was a member of Ferndale Baptist Church, Ferndale, FL.

Carol was born in Detroit, Michigan and began riding at age of 12. She moved to Florida in 1973 and studied and trained dressage for many years, moving up the levels to Grand Prix, under Anders Lindgren from Sweden and achieved her goal as a Grand Prix Rider. Her hard work and perseverance paid off in 1996 when she made it to the Olympic Selection Trials on her stallion Forest Dancer. She was a member of Central Florida Dressage and active USEF/USDF competitor through 2017.

Her career highlights include, having earned the USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals, 1996 winner of the prestigious $2000 Silver Stirrup award at Grand Prix Level and four- time ABIG Regional winner at the Grand Prix Level. She also won Numerous championships and Horse of the Year Breed Awards at Grand Prix Level.

She was known for her classical riding style which she has passed onto her many students. Carol was also a talented Irish Dancer and accomplished artist.

Carol left behind her beloved horse Rapscallion. She will be sorely missed by her brothers and sisters in Christ at Ferndale Baptist Church and the local horse community.
