Taking Over the The Family Business

Maplecrest Farm sits on 25 acres and is an active boarding, lesson, and training facility. Reese, a USDF Certified Instructor through Fourth Level, primarily teaches other local professionals and top level eventers, adult amateurs, and takes horses in for training. Lindsay, a USDF Associate Instructor, also maintains an active competition and training schedule but especially enjoys teaching and working with children. “We’ve always been a successful team at our farm and now we’re working on taking over the management of the family business as my Mom begins to step back a bit to focus on her studio art activities and business. I’m trying to explore creative ways to make the farm a more profitable business,” she said with a smile. Reese is also the head trainer at Chinook Arch Farm, a breeding facility in Georgetown, KY, where she teaches and trains young horses. Reese is also in demand to give clinics nationwide and it is easy to see that she is enthusiastic about meeting new people and their horses.

When Donna Garner, owner and general manager of Chinook Arch Farm, moved to Lexington from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Reese was one of the first people that she met. Donna commented that Reese was quick to introduce her to as many of her contacts in the area as she could and was welcoming and open with her knowledge. “Reese's unwavering commitment to the basics when training young horses is her greatest attribute and contribution to my farm. She communicates very well with her clients, there is never a moment when she is too busy to talk about the progress of one particular horse, even though she is riding or training many during a day. This makes Reese unique. She understands the investment of breeders in their young horses and never treats them as any less important than a FEI level student.”
